A few weeks ago, I started watching an old Sinhala film called "Kamare Sinhala". Kamare's plot is quite unique. It's about an airman on a two-year long patrol, which he regrets the second day of his duty when he meets Nandana, who becomes his love interest. For the next two years, their relationship grows stronger and they often imagine what their lives will be like in the future. However, on his third day on duty, Kamare learns something unexpected while trying to save one of his comrades from some rebels. Kamare and Nandana spend their time together in Sinhalese idealized Kandy, which is half-real and half-imagined. Also, the film is very much inspired by Walt Disney's creations. In other words, Kamare is similar to the protagonist from Walt Disney's "Peter Pan", where he learns to love as a young boy but not as an adult. Additionally, the movie is also similar to "My Fair Lady", which reflects on contemporary times. The film also has a western culture, as it uses typical Western names for its characters like "Brenda" and "John". The movie takes place in Kandy, Sri Lanka, as it shows typical places such as the Temple of the Tooth Relic and the Peradeniya Gardens. Also, the film is very much influenced by Sinhalese culture and uses Sinhalese stereotypes like "pithi" (eye make-up), saris, and mussalas (headscarf). The first day of Kamare's duty begins with him getting up at dawn. He then walks to his airbase to begin his two-year long patrol. There, he is given a tour around the base and the plane he will be flying in. He fantasizes about flying with a girl beside him, but instead has to do it by himself. He then leaves the base and returns home to his humble childhood home that's filled with memories. After a quick chat with his father, he falls asleep in his old bedroom. However, he wakes up after only a few seconds to find his old room empty and dust-covered. His mother passes away from cancer two years ago and his father regrets selling the house after her death without telling Kamare about it beforehand. There are also flashbacks to his past where he watches the woman who will become Nandana walking in the park with another man. Kamare then walks to the city's market which is filled with many people. As he walks, he sees Nandana walking away from him, leaving him regretful. After that, it shows his next memory of him trying to save a man named John from being shot by rebels. He slaps one of the rebels on the face and it shows that John's life is saved for now, but Kamare still feels bad about saving him because he will serve two years in prison for that. cfa1e77820
